About Me
Greetings and salutations, friends…
Hi, I’m Maura. I am a retired lighting designer, a crazed thespian, a Rocky Horror alumna, an amateur jeweler & sewist, a trained culinarian, a hobbyist gardener, an occasional blogger, a freelance writer, a recovering administrative assistant, a college dropout, and a freeloading millennial. I am also chronically ill. After many years of mystery illnesses and unexplained pain I was first suspected of having endometriosis in February 2020 at age 32, and diagnosed via surgery in March 2021.
Losing my job and going into lockdown in 2020 turned into a blessing for my body. It allowed me to get the rest I finally needed and devote myself to my personal wellness for the first time in my life. It also allowed me to reacquaint myself with my skills and artistic passions that I’d let fall by the wayside while juggling my back-breaking corporate & retail jobs and managing my illness. (And also planning a wedding and maintaining relationships along the way.)
With the unending support of my amazing (constantly working, long-suffering, rockstar, mad scientist) husband, as well as those nearest and dearest to us, I took care of myself for a while, staying out of the workforce and continuing to use art and spooky-nerdy homemaking as self-care (on top of modern medicine and therapy) while I allowed my body and mind to heal. I discovered the Costube community and had grand plans to start a YouTube channel.
Despite returning (remotely & very part-time) to the workforce in Fall 2021, I was able to launch the Unwilling Housewife YouTube channel in April 2022, making nerdy clothes, weighted plush, and anything that strikes my fancy.
Despite another medical setback leading to an extended filming hiatus through Autumn & Winter of 2022, I hope to be back to work and creating new and exciting projects in 2023!
Cheers!
